OrganicAthlete Races for a Better World

Sports are usually not syn-
onymous with health and sustainability. Many ad-vertisers like to piggyback on the healthy and fit images that athletes convey, yet the junk foods and big cars that many athletes promote contradict any intentions of social or environmental responsibility. More

IN THE NEWS

SUVs Out of Fashion in Paris

E-Magazine reports that Paris' city council has passed a resolution calling for a ban of SUVs within city limits, effective at the beginning of 2006. Paris has been run by a Socialist/Green coalition since 2001. Municipal leaders must decide to keep the proposal in an overall plan to reduce the city's gridlock.

Paris' government has been proactive in setting aside special travel lanes for buses and bicycles. Planners hope to reduce the environmental impact of Paris' traffic congestion even more by keeping out those vehicles that pollute the most for no functional reason. Just like everywhere else in the world, SUVs are more popular than ever in Europe, and currently make up about five percent of the French auto fleet.

By ALICIA CHANG .c The Associated Press

WOODSTOCK, N.Y. (AP) - If you're road-tripping this summer, chances are you'll end up at one of those nondescript highway rest stops that serve mainly juicy burgers, greasy fries and syrupy soft drinks. But the way food gurus Nikki and David Goldbeck see it, travel is no excuse for eating badly. More
