SUVs Out of Fashion in Paris E-Magazine reports that Paris' city council has passed a resolution calling for a ban of SUVs within city limits, effective at the beginning of 2006. Paris has been run by a Socialist/Green coalition since 2001. Municipal leaders must decide to keep the proposal in an overall plan to reduce the city's gridlock. Paris' government has been proactive in setting aside special travel lanes for buses and bicycles. Planners hope to reduce the environmental impact of Paris' traffic congestion even more by keeping out those vehicles that pollute the most for no functional reason.
