The Zen Philosopher Basho Once Wrote: "A Flute with No Holes is not a Flute…and a Tire with No Holes is a Blessing" - Put your best wheels in front. The front of the car is generally heavier than the back, so any imperfections in the front wheels are magnified, increasing rolling resistance and lowering fuel efficiency*.
- Over-tightening wheel nuts and bolts can warp the brake rotor or brake drum, which can also ultimately result in increased rolling resistance and lower fuel economy.
- Make sure you get new valve stems whenever you get new tires. Old stems can leak, decreasing tire pressure and fuel economy. [*EXCEPTION: If you're buying two new tires, you should place the new tires in the back. This improves steering and handling.] |
