Secretary Samuel W. Bodman
U.S. Department of Energy
1000 Independence Ave., SW
Washington, DC 20585

Dear Secretary Bodman,

Over thirty years ago, in the wake of an energy crisis that affected our entire nation, Congress mandated that minimum energy efficiency standards for appliances should be enacted on a national level.

The Department of Energy was entrusted with the creation and implementation of these standards. Despite the fact that it has had three decades to comply, the DOE has made very little progress on this important project.

Appliances account for almost one-third of US energy consumption, and generating electricity is a dirty business that creates greenhouse gases that add to global warming. What's more, our energy usage carries grave implications for environmental quality, economic stability, and national security. As such, I urge you lead the Department of Energy in a positive direction and implement these long-past-due energy efficiency standards for appliances.

Sincerely,
