Dear Mr. Immelt,

In recent years, GE has gone to great lengths to reduce the environmental impact of its operations and increase its portfolio of “green” products, most notably with GE’s “ecomagination” campaign.

I applaud the progress GE has made, and hope that the company doesn’t squander the goodwill that these efforts have engendered by continuing to resist the EPA’s proposed locomotive emissions standards.

Other manufacturers have stated that they plan to adhere to the EPA’s new regulations. As the leading manufacturer of locomotive engines in North American, GE has an opportunity to greatly reduce smog and improve the health and lives of hundreds of millions of people by complying with the new standards.

Since it's founding by Thomas Edison in 1890, General Electric has stressed innovation and a willingness to take on new challenges. I'm confident that GE will continue to innovate in the future, and hope that you will be able to come to a mutually-agreeable consensus with the EPA on this important subject.

Sincerely,
