New Hampshire
The New Hampshire Sustainable Lodging & Restaurant Program (NHSLRP) strives to encourage lodging and restaurant facilities throughout the state to continually evaluate operations for more environmentally sustainable means of pampering guests while protecting the environment. The program promotes facilities reducing their impact on the land and natural resources through their own selected initiatives. Vermont Hotels Vermont's Green Hotels and Environmental Partners are using sound environmental management practices to reduce their impacts on the environment, improve their bottom line and satisfy customer demand for environmentally conscious lodging establishments.
Boston Park Plaza Hotel - Boston, MA The hotel has a recycling system that has cut by more than half its laundry water use. It has installed Thermopane windows, reducing heating costs by $84,000 a year, and recycles enough paper to save 300 trees a year.
Red Lion Hotels - Portland, OR Installed a $190,000 laundry-water recycling plant. Today 10 hotels use the plant, including seven Red Lion hotels, and have cut their water use in half.
Cheeca Lodge - Florida Keys
The lodge boasts an ecology camp for children, an “environmentally correct” dining-room menu, and an on-site wastewater treatment plant that irrigates the golf course and grounds. They also banned jet skis because they disturb the fish along its shallow coastline and turns its beach lights low at night so that nesting turtles can come ashore.
