US President Agrees With BWC President: America Is Addicted To Oil!

Still, BWC Welcomes Bush's Recognition, Even If Everyone Doesn't Take Him Seriously

In his State of the Union, President Bush declared that Americans were addicted to oil. As a long time member of Oilholics Anonymous, BWC welcomes the President. You can find BWC President Mitch Rofsky's 2002 article on detoxing from oil here.

We welcome President Bush and hope he gets to work. Driving Change will have more on what we can do to get off oil next month. However, not everyone--including many conservatives--take Bush at his word.

Former Congressman Joe Scarborough (R-FL) told host Chris Matthews on MSNBC's Hardball: "Do you really think that the President of the United States wants to move to alternative fuel in the future? Do you really believe this guy from West Texas believes that hybrid cars are the way to go in the future? Hell no! I mean he's saying what needed to be said in the State of the Union Address, just like Bill Clinton did, when he worked his way to the middle. But Cheney's got his back.

Mathews: I guess I committed the Washington sin of believing somebody, Joe.

Joe Scarborough: I guess.... "
